Elim

The Elim wine ward is situated very near to the treacherous coastline of Cape Agulhas at the southern-most tip of Africa. The proximity to the sea combined with the perpetual cool winds that blow from both the southeast and southwest during summer, are responsible for the unique growing conditions that we experience in this part of the world. Mineral rich gravel soils ensures natural low yields. This combined with cooler temperatures results in slower ripened healthy fruit with highly concentrated flavours. The Agulhas plain is also a place of environmental significance, being home to thousands of species of the Cape Floral Kingdom, many of which are endangered and extremely rare. The Elim winegrowers, having incorporated their farms into the Nuwejaars Wetland Special Management Initiative are committed to working together towards environmentally responsible wine production and the protecting of these natural resources. The wine pioneers of this intriguing landscape have been rewarded with wines as unique as the area they come from.
